CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA
WASHINGTON, DC | Established in 1887 by the U.S. Bishops to provide advanced education to the clergy and laity, the Catholic University of America today is a higher education campus and a cultural institution that has significance beyond its boundaries. Since 1994, the MVLA has maintained an ongoing relationship with the University, collaborating on the development of several buildings and sites.
A collaboration in 2012 with Ayers Saint Gross Architects generated the Campus Master Plan and Landscape Enhancement Plan. The Campus Master Plan focused on creating green space as campus structure, enhancing pedestrian circulation, and connecting campus to city. At the same time, the Landscape Enhancement Plan provided detailed guidance on landscape decisions to improve the daily experience of campus users and visitors.
A major component of the Master Plan was recently realized through collaboration with RAMSA and ASG on the siting and streetscape for the Conway School of Nursing and the creation of a Campus Gateway at Michigan Avenue. A three-tiered fountain at the center of the Gateway quadrangle and plentiful seating elevate the Gateway from transitional space to a place to linger.
Other significant campus projects include the Columbus School of Law, the Pryzbyla Student Center, and the Angels Unawares Plaza.
