PRINCIPAL EMERITUS
Michael and Doug have known each other since 7th grade. Both became interested in the profession of Landscape Architecture together while at McLean High School. They are kindred spirits and have been blessed to work with one another for the past 25 years.
Before joining MVLA, Doug served in both the public and private sectors. While at the National Park Service, he served as the Landscape Architect assigned to the White House during the Ford, Carter, and Reagan Administrations, and then as Project Coordinator for the reconstruction of the Filene Center at Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts.
Currently, Doug serves as mentor to the up and coming talented staff at MVLA and as an Adjunct Professor for the past 7 years for the Virginia Tech Graduate Landscape Architecture Program at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
Doug’s contribution to the profession was acknowledged in 2010, when he was inducted into the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows. He has received numerous national awards and recognition most notably the ASLA National Honor Award for The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Scenic Easement Restoration. He is a member of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Board, is licensed to practice in 4 states, and has achieved emeritus status in two others.
