HARTFORD, CT |The iQuilt Plan for Hartford offers an urban design vision, reimaging downtown as a walkable cultural district. MVLA joined Suisman Urban Design to bolster two of the city’s greatest strengths: its concentration of cultural and landscape assets and its compact downtown. The iQuilt Plan defines a loose grid of park-to-river pedestrian routes that weave together key cultural sites and institutions. The Plan enhances the public space network along a “green seam” connecting parks, plazas, and green streets incorporating green infrastructure. The Plan honors the city’s history as an innovator in public park design connecting historic Bushnell Park and the State Capitol to the Connecticut River. The iQuilt creates a vision for a more vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable city featuring the park as a centerpiece.
