PEACE CORPS COMMEMORATIVE

WASHINGTON, DC | The Peace Corps mission focuses on engagement and interaction with diverse peoples in need around the planet.  By living and working together in mutual respect and trust, all can transcend differences in culture, faith, and ethnicity to create a better and more peaceful world. Artist Larry Kirkland and MVLA are designing a .6 acre commemorative park located adjacent to the Capitol Grounds in DC. The park represents America’s outstretched hand--living, working, and learning from peoples around the globe. The central plaza is framed by a pair of ‘hand’ benches and a map of the world in the paving, aligned with the Capitol and the Taft Memorial across the street. The commemorative’s strong tree canopy reinforces the connection to Capitol Grounds.
